Just a Little Sumthin to Say "Haaaaay!!!!"

First off, thank you for all the positive, encouraging comments on my last couple of posts. I really count on the feedback I get from everybody so it really makes my day.

There isn't much point to this post other than to fill the time while I wait on The Hubs to get done with his work meeting here in big 'ol Nash-Vegas that I tagged along on.

Today begins a HUGE sale week at my face grocery chain, P*blix and I have a coupon crusade of epic proportions prepared!!!! (I will be posting pics and prices!!! Couponing is a favorite hobby of mine and this trip is gonna be about as close to "Extreme Couponing" as I get. (No, I have never in my life gotten $1000 worth of groceries for $25. That stuff is shady on multiple levels.) Most weeks are pretty low key for me but every now and then it gets extra awesome.

I didn't start Couponing still after my Surgery and that has influenced how I do it. After I get done today -- will post more about my couponing adventures.

So what I wanna know is--- Do I have any fellow couponers out there???? Are you maybe interested in it but not sure?? Any questions about it??

Food In My Pouch and Sunshine Up My Skirt

Since there are so many new/prospective bandsters out there who have been trying to wrap their brains around the types of foods they will be able to eat with their bands, I thought I might take a few posts to play show and tell about some of my go to foods.  Here are some of the things I ate yesterday:

Breakfast
I had this around 9:30a after my big ol' mug of coffee, sippy cup full of water, and vitamins.  I always eat something semi-soft mushy in the morning since I am very prone to morning tightness.

<<<---------- This stuff is what I used to make
                        this stuff------->>>

1/2c. plain greek yogurt
70 cals/ 11g protein
1/4c. Uncle Sam cereal
60 cals/ 3g protein
1Tbsp Local Honey
(call me crazy but I firmly believe this is why I am not sneezing my face off from allergies)

Lunch
Lunch was kinda light for me today. I made these Edamame with Sesame Vinaigrette (about a 1/2c. shelled ) and munched on them periodically over a couple hours.
120 cals/ 12g protein
I know a lot of veteran bandsters would frown upon the whole "munched for a couple hours" thing but sometimes that is what works for me, not all the time, but sometimes. I don't advise this behavior with say, M&Ms, but if you were to find yourself wanting to munch on handfuls of little round, snacky things you would be better off scratching that itch with some Edamame than the M&Ms.  (And that, my friends, is what we call a small change!)

Snack
Fresh Mozzeralla (cherry size)  1 oz. 70cals/ 5g protein
Sprinkle some salt on these dudes and OMG!!  It did make me wish that my basil plants were already in full bloom because the only thing that could make these better is some fresh, homemade pesto!!!
This is not what 1 oz looks like, I just forgot to take the pic before I ate my serving  :)
Dinner
We did Mexican food tonight.  I ended up getting the shrimp and cheese quesadilla.  Not the most perfect thing ever but part of having the band (for me) is not having to live my entire life at 100% perfection.  I strive for getting it totally 'right' 80-90% of the time and considering that a win.  (That is my philosophy-- your mileage may vary.)
This was my leftover 'half' that I brought home.  I actually ate about 2/3 of the other one that came with this guy which was a tad smaller.  I really, really had to focus on my small bites and chewing with this thing --- my recent fill has pushed the small bites/chewing thing forward in my mind again.

I also had some chips and salsa --- heavy on the salsa, light on the chips. :)

That was my eating yesterday....................... I also drank my 1 gal. of water.

<<<<<------------I bought some of this stuff to add to my water.

Because every time I tried to take a "Poopsy-doodle"
this weekend it left me feeling a little like this ------------>>>>>

Here's hoping it helps, 'cause I can't handle going through that again.

Aaaaannnnddddd since I just talked about my weekend Poopscapades, here is a brain cleanser.

This skirt is Size 12 AND was purchased (clearanced) w/o trying on first!!!!!!

Make A List Monday

Make A List Monday
Courtesy of Robyn

Today Robyn challenged us to list the 10 things we would do if we won a the lottery.

This is not difficult considering The Hubs and I have been known to play the lottery from time to time.

Seeeeee!!
(BTDubs, the Meg@Milli*ns is up to $363 Million?!?!?!?!?!)

{I know a lot of people have attitude about the lottery but we play for fun -- it's part of our entertainment budget. We don't play every time and we don't ignore our other financial responsibilities in order to afford lottery tickets.  We treat purchasing lottery tickets the same as we would a movie ticket -- it's entertainment and we only do it when the budget allows. Just sayin'. }

1) Pay off all of our debt.
2) Purchase a large piece of land and build a comfortably sized custom home -- paid for in full.
3) Pay off our immediate family's debt and set up trusts for them so that they have the option to retire when they choose
4) Purchase new, reasonably appointed vehicles to meet all our needs.
5) Set up trust accounts for any future children with the catch that they only get the $$ if they finish college/training program in which they gain a skill/ability that they can use to serve/help others in need. (I want them to be able to pursue their passions without stressing over day to day $$ but I don't want entitled little turds.)
6) I will fund/staff a Basset Hound Rescue Ranch to house and love all the unwanted Bassets -- and there are so many!!
7) I would fully fund the non-profit dental office that gave me my first job in dentistry.
8) I would open a similar low cost dental clinic and I would just clean teeth -- kinda like Forrest Gump and mowing the grass.

And 'cause I was a gozillionaire and I liked doing it so much, I cut that grass for free. - Forrest Gump
9) I would travel school any of my future kids.  We would go to all the places where important things happened and learn about them hands on.
10) I would hire my Zumba guru Maggie to be my personal full time Zumba trainer.

Ten Things Thursday!!

Jiminy French y'all!!!  How did it get to be Thursday already?!?!?  Here are my Ten Things -- courtesy of Laura Belle

1) Since all the cool kids are doing it, I decided to jump on the Kale Chip bandwagon.  For serious, you guys!!  These things rock my face off.  I bought 3 bunches at the grocery store and they are almost gone in 2 days.  I have never eaten that much green leafies in that short amount of time so that's definitely a win!!!  They are crunchy and salty and not nearly as slidery as regular tater chips.  I am also gonna try to make some Spinach chips too!!!

Giant Bowl O' Kale Chips (almost gone now)

2) I finally got around to starting my herb garden yesterday. Seeee!!! Hopefully, I will up to my ass in fresh herbs in no time!!

I am new to the whole "I like to grow stuff" thing because I used hate all things "green thumby." My parents were total green thumbs who loved to garden and I spent countless hours of forced labor  quality time ass up in the garden pulling weeds, etc.

3) Because of my new found love of Kale chips I thought I might plant some Kale.  I wandered around the home & garden store 3 times looking for Kale plants or Kale seeds -- something, anything!!!  I finally found a salesperson and asked her "Who do you gotta f*#k around here to find some Kale??" "Where is your Kale located?" I learned that Kale is fall planting fodder and I was a season too late for my Kale chip obsession.  BOO!!  Guess I am gonna be hitting up the produce section extra hard this summer.

4) I went to a bar last night to see a band with my pal Andrea.

I am officially an old lady!!! Oh how things have changed since my wilder days.  I didn't get to the bar until 9pm (I would have rather been in bed.)  I had good wine instead of cheap beer (Didn't even get a buzz bc I also drank lots of water.)  The band was good. (I would have rather been doing some Zumba to some crappy pop music.)  I left before midnight.  When I got home I had to shower off the bar stank before I could get to sleep.

5) My Band is still tight as all hell.  It could be the weird weather here or some PMS/hormonal thing -- who knows.  I am rolling with it for now.  It's just something I have to be aware of and not really causing any problems.  I am just rocking my soups, mushies, and my stick blender is getting a workout.   Since I have to drive 2 hours to my Doc -- I am gonna give it sometime before I think seriously about an unfill.

6) Although the tightness doesn't make it any harder to take my vitamins. It still takes me all danged day to get all of them in me.
Red Pill top: Pre-Natal Vitamin,  White Pills: Calcium Supplement,  Red Pill bottom: DHA supplement,  Yellow Pill: Folic Acid Supplement
Getting them down is a process but it works for me --  I like to call it my Vitamin Ceremony (you know, like a Japanese tea ceremony??)  It involves taking them before I eat and lots of warm liquids, i.e. tea/coffee/soup.   The whole trying to get preggo thing has made just a *wee* bit obsessed with taking my vitamins.

7) However, like Maria, I did get a scorchin' case of reflux last night.  And I know exactly why, I committed one of my cardinal band sins --  eating right before bed and going straight to sleep.  It's my recipe for reflux, regardless of fill level.  It's the only thing that has ever given me reflux.  The only thing that makes it stop hurting for me is drinking some Buttermilk --- but I was out.  :(  I tried regular milk but it didn't work as well.

8) Peyton Manning is going to Denver. This makes me inordinately sad.  I always said I would root for anyone that Peyton plays for, but I don't know if I can root for Denver. Ugh!!  I *really* hoped, prayed, begged the sweet Lord that he would come back to TN.  We named a street after him in Knoxville, we totes would have done it again in Nashville.

9)  I haven't worked out in almost 2 weeks.  Last week it was because I was totally committed to my massive Spring cleaning project ( I broke lots of sweats hustling around swinging the broom and mop) but this week I have been too busy day drinking and going to bars.  Hah!!!  I thought I might go to Zumba tonight but today the weather is like this:
Rainy and BLAH!!
10) Since I am not going to Zumba, I am gonna paint my nails -- hands and feet!!!  I got a gel polish kit (aka like Shellac) for Christmas.  It takes me a while to do the whole system but it's worth it when I only have to do my nails once a month and it doesn't cost me $50 for a manicure.  I love, love, love it!!

2 Year Bandiversary!!!

2 years ago I made the 2nd best decision of my life with the 1st best decision by my side.

Yesterday was mine and The Hubs 2nd Bandiversary!

I had really big plans for some huge celebratory post but I was too busy living me some life.  I ended up having an awesome sushi lunch with one of my girlfriends, at our favorite Japanese restaurant.  We even indulged in some daytime adult beverages (since it was her Spring Break)!!!!

My Band also decided after a few edamame and 2 pcs of tuna that it would slam shut for the day.  It was kind of appropriate in a way ---  what could be a better day to be so SUPER aware of my Band.  I spent the rest of the evening slowly trying to coax down hot tea and Cup O Soup.

As I promised a couple weeks ago, I wanted to post my pre- surgery and current stats.  So here 'ya go!

                            Pre-Surgery              Current (3/2/2012)

Weight:                       284                              189         = 95 lbs lost
BMI:                           48.8                             32.4        =  16.4 BMI pts lost
Body Fat %:                52.1                            34.8        = 17.3 pt reduction in Body Fat %
Fat Mass:                   146.01 lbs                   66.0 lbs
Fat Free Mass:          134 lbs                         123 lbs
Total Body Water:      98. lbs                          90 lbs

In the past 2 years, I have lost 33.5% of my starting body weight.

I didn't make my goal of losing 100 lbs by my Bandiversary but I am not too worried about it. I am not gonna let the 5 lbs I haven't lost yet overshadow the 95 lbs I have lost AND KEPT OFF!!!

I have, however, drastically changed my body composition and my fitness level.

I know this because of the numbers listed above and because even though the scale has hardly moved my clothes keep fitting better and I even managed to fit into my first size 12 pants recently.

Here are some befores and afters.

May 2009

Saturday night getting our Irish on with our pals.

I wasn't able to get a  full body shot of us on Saturday night (my friends were a little drinky faced and could quite grasp my reasoning for a full body pic).

This pic is from a couple weeks ago after my workout. It was one of those -- "I had to do a double take because I really couldn't believe that was me in the mirror" kind of moments.

I puffy heart love the handicapped mirror in this bathroom-- such a kind and forgiving angle.

So there you have it my obligatory Bandiversary post.  I have more things tumbling through my brain about Bandiversaries, success, goals, etc.   I may post some more this week -- I may not. Who knows?

Losing An Hour, but Gaining NSVs!!!

First off, lemme say, I fuh-reakin' love me some Daylight Savings time!!!  I am sooo ready for long, sunny, days full of being active and productive.

I decide to celebrate my love for Daylight Savings time by kicking off my Spring Cleaning efforts this weekend.  First job on the list??  OUR CLOSET -- seriously, how it managed to get so completely outta control in the 4 short months since we moved in is beyond me.

What started off as a simple sort, purge, organize mission turned into an NSV-apolooza that I could have never imagined.  I mean, it's 24 hours later and I am still stupid faced giddy about it.

NSV #1 :

Hubs and I have been maintaining/losing consistently enough that we finally had the courage to get rid of most of our old winter clothes.  This was a BFD because this time last year, despite having already lost quite a bit of our weight, we hadn't lost so much that we felt comfortable getting rid of our winter clothes.  We had both plateaued a bit over last Winter and so there was that little voice in the back of our heads that thought there just *might* be a chance that we would still be able to wear those clothes when the next Winter rolled around.

While that ended up not being the case mostly, there were still a handful of items that we could still wear at the beginning of this Fall/Winter.  I can now say that all those old Winter clothes are now in a bag headed to the Goodwill.   We finally believe in ourselves, our Bands, and our new lifestyle enough that we KNOW that those clothes won't work for us next Winter.  YAY!!!!

NSV #2:

I also decided to dig out my box of "Goal Clothes" --  you know, the stash of clothes that you have held onto for years and years from your skinniest days??  Well, I have been toting mine around since college.  It's full of blue jeans, pants, and dresses ranging from high school to college.  It even had my Senior Prom dress in it.  (An amazingly classic black, satin, strapless number that was made for me from a Calvin Klein pattern. )

So long story short?!?!   EVERYTHING IN THE BOX EITHER FITS OR IS TOO BIG!!!!

The aforementioned Senior Prom dress -- TOO BIG!!!  (Don't worry, I'm gonna see about having that sucker altered because it's just too awesome to let go of.)

The jeans?? All of them- TOO BIG!   I wore them all around the house for, like, 5 minutes just because I could but then I was more than happy to put them in the Goodwill bag.  (I mean, I can't believe I ever thought those jeans were the hotness -- alls I'm saying is tapered legs, full rise torso --Eeww!!)

With the exception of the Senior Prom dress, an awesome LBD from Banana Republic, and another cute sundress from Express, everything else went into the Goodwill bag.  And it felt sooooo good!!!

I realized that I had arrived at my Goal and it had nothing to do with the number on the scale.  I made it back to the Me that those clothes represented.   I don't need those clothes to remind of what I used to look like or how I used to be or who I could be.  I don't have to look at that box of clothes to remember a time when I could actually feel good about myself because I have managed to make my way back to that place. The Me that I kept in that box is now and about and living her life.

From here on out, it can't get anything but better.

NSV #3:

The even crazier thing about all those clothes in that box???  The last time I wore those clothes I weighed in the 160s.  However, this morning when I weighed the scale read 188lbs.   This proved an even more point to me --  I am in even better physical shape than I was 15 years ago.  I may weigh more but my body composition is so much better.  I am a firmer, tighter, more toned 188lbs now than the last time I saw 188lbs on the scale.

This realization couldn't have come at a better time since I am a week away from my 2 year Bandiversary.  I had originally wanted to lose 100 lbs. by my 2 Bandiversary, but it looks like I might come up just a couple pounds short of that goal.  That's totally okay by me --- because I realize that I am profoundly changing the shape of my body.

Like many of you I have been bouncing up/down with same 4lbs or so for the past 2 months.  It was frustrating.  It was hard to keep from beating myself up about it.   I mean, I am eating pretty well, getting my cardio  and even adding more weight training to my regimen.  It's hard to know sometimes if the scale isn't changing because you really are "adding muscle" or if that's just another fairy tale we tell ourselves.  Well, now, I finally believe it!!!  Although the scale isn't really moving, my body IS changing.

That, my friends, is the definition of a Non-Scale Victory!!!!!

someecards.com - I'm just one more stomach flu away from my goal weight!

Make A List Monday

Robyn has given us our Make a List Monday mission this week!!! It is to list our 10 favorite current TV shows.  So here goes!!

(I am listing them in order of what day they air on TV because that is the easiest way for me to remember -- not in order of preference.)

1) Castle

2) Mike & Molly

3) New Girl

4) Justified

5) Happy Endings

6) The Big Bang Theory

7) Bones

8) The Walking Dead

9) Californication

10) The Good Wife

This soooo doesn't even cover all my TV faves. 'Cuz Mama loves her some TV especially TV on my schedule.  The invention of DVR changed my life --  like, if I had to choose between a cure for the common cold or my DVR ??  I'd pick the DVR hands down everyday.

Let Me Fill You In.....

I got my fill last Friday -- I also got to drive like a NASCAR driver to avoid tornadoes. Good times!! So far the fill is going well -- just enough added restriction to remind me that those Band rules are there for a reason. I ended up getting .25cc for a grand total of 8.0ccs in my band.

I opted to get my fill done under Fluoroscopy since it had been almost a year since my last fill/check up. Everything under the hood looks good and according to the FNP the position of my band is "textbook perfect". Yay!!

Knowing my Band is still where it should be is great but what really rocked my socks were my stats. I was so totally stoked over them. I know you are dying to know them but imma gonna keep you in suspense because my 2yr Bandiversary in less than 2 weeks so I will tell you then. ;)

I also broke the real world/ blog world barrier this weekend. I had an ah-some, long chat with the one and only RockBand Barbie!! I totally talked her head off!!

Couple of NSVs for ya'. My high school alma mater is playing in the state girls basketball tourney so I am watching them opening minutes of the game as I type this on my phone. I
Seeing a lot of people I know walk right past me without recognizing me and these arena seats and stairs are no problem at all.
